Please tell me about yourself, why did you pick UT Health San Antonio, and your program.

My family is very important to me. My wife and I have been married for 10 years and we have three daughters, ages 3, 5 and 8, that keep us busy. I am originally from Tampa, Florida, so I’m an avid Bucs, Lightning and Rays fan. I joined the United States Navy and served as a submariner following high school. After the military, I worked in the nuclear industry for 7.5 years. While working full time, I finished my Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering Technologies and Masters of Radiation Health Physics. I had a strong background in health physics that I wanted to translate to the medical field and the DMP program at UT Health San Antonio provided me that opportunity.

What has been the highlight of graduate school so far? Have you won any awards or have there been any achievements you’ve been proud of?

The highlight of this program is definitely the clinical experience. I’ve enjoyed being part of a highly functional oncology team that provides world class treatments to patients with cancer. In the process, I have developed strong relationships with other residents and physicists that will serve well over time.

While in this program, I successfully completed the American Board of Radiology part 1 exam for certification. I also became a Certified Health Physicist (CHP) in 2020.

What’s next?

I have accepted a position with Ohio Medical Physics Consulting. I will be the medical physicist at Mercy Health Lorain Cancer Center in Elyria, Ohio just outside of Cleveland.

Any advice for your fellow graduate students?

These programs are what you make of them, so never stop never stopping.
